House-elf

House-elves are bound servants of old wizarding houses. They can apparate inside Hogwarts, and they punish themselves when they disobey. Dobby serves the Malfoys until Harry frees him. Winky is dismissed by Barty Crouch, and Kreacher keeps the Black house and, for a time, a locket Horcrux.
